Synopsis

Underscored with original music (Jamal Leki-Albano) played on simple flutes and wooden box percussion, The Legend of the Green Glass is the first of a trilogy celebrating the ancient days of matriarchy. An infant is found at the door of an older couple’s cabin. The child is wrapped in opulent cloth. Upon examination, an oak shaped mark is found on the infant’s back. A glowing green disk is packed in among her swaddling.

Despite their concerns, Miriam and Gerald raise the child as if she were their granddaughter. But when Erkametz is about to turn thirteen, she discovers the green glass that’s been hidden from her all these years. Alone in the woods, she is visited by a woman who mysteriously knows about her leaf mark.

Legend of the Green Glass examines political dissent, the role of the natural world in human life, and the power of the matriarchal spirit.
